What do I need to access the wireless service?
You will need a laptop computer with a wireless card, or a portable wireless device, such as a PDA or Blackberry.
The first 15 minutes of wireless access are free. After that, a library card and password are required. You may add a password to your library account at the online public catalog machine or by asking at the circulation desk.
You may register a valid Pennsylvania library card at the Circulation Desk. If you are out of state, please see a librarian at the Information Desk.

How do I log on?
If your laptop has a wireless card, it should connect to our network automatically. You should only need to open your browser to connect to and read the local library acceptable use policy, and agree to abide by its terms. Using your library card number and password to log on indicates your acceptance of these terms of use.
APPLE LAPTOP USERS TAKE NOTE
If you are using an Apple laptop and do not have Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox loaded on your machine, please use your 15 free minutes to download Mozilla Firefox from the Internet. Our service cannot authenticate patrons using the Apple Opera browser. After authentication, you may use your browser to surf the web.
What are the advantages?
- No waiting for a library PC
- High speed access utilizing the IEEE 802.11a and 802.11g WiFi standard
- Can download/save programs or work to your own computer without the security restrictions in place on the library PCs.
What are the disadvantages?
- WiFi access is inherently
less secure than wired access.

How do I access the library's wireless connection?
In most cases, you can simply start your laptop and the computer will be able to detect the library's wireless connection (check by hovering your mouse over the wireless icon in your task tray, lower right-hand corner, by the time.). If you are not able to connect, try right clicking on the icon and choosing repair.
The library staff is not able to help you configure your computer for wireless access, you will need to change your computer's settings yourself.

Some steps for creating a typical wireless configuration are given below:
Proper Settings:
SSID: any
Network Mode: Infrastructure
WEP: disabled
IP or Network Settings: DHCP enabled or Obtain an I/P address automatically
DNS: Obtain a DNS address automatically
The most common problem is that the IP or Network Settings are not configured correctly. You can change these settings by following the steps below for your operating system:
The WAM is not compatible with Windows Me operating system.
Windows XP and Windows NT
- Go to the Start button. Click on Settings and Control Panel.
- Double click on the Network icon. Select the Protocols tab.
- Select the TCP/IP protocol and click on Properties.
- Select Obtain an IP address from a DHCP server, click Apply, OK, and Close.
- When asked "Do you want to enable DHCP?" click Yes.
- When asked if you want to restart your computer now, click Yes.
Windows 2000
- Go to the Start button. Click on Settings and Control Panel.
- Double click on the Network and Dial-up Connections icon. Click once on Local Area Connection. Select File and click on Properties.
- Select the TCP/IP protocol and click on Properties.
- Select Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain a DNS server address automatically. Click OK.
Macintosh OS 8 & 9
- Go to Apple Menu, Control Panel, TCP/IP.
- Connect via "Airport"(or other WiFi Ethernet)
- Configure "Using DHCP Server"
- Leave Name Server and Additional Search domains blank.
Macintosh OS X
- Go to Apple Menu, System Preferences, and Network button.
- Select TCP/IP tab and Configure "Using DHCP".
- Above the TCP/IP tab, you may need to Configure via "Airport" or other WiFi Ethernet.
- Leave Name Server and Additional Search domains blank.

On your laptop, you should be able to access our wireless network (library-g)
simply by
clicking on

or Mozilla Firefox
Scroll down to the log in screen:
You will need:
A library card from anywhere in Pennsylvania. If it is not from Montgomery County, make sure to register it at the Circulation Desk.
A pin number. If you don’t already have one, you can set your pin number at the Circulation Desk.
Out of state residents may ask the Information Desk for a guest card.
PA residents without a library card can log on for 15 minutes of free wireless access.
Our wireless network works with most Windows systems, including XP and VISTA.
It works with Apple systems, but you must use the Mozilla Firefox Browser to log on. If you don’t have Mozilla, you can use the 15 free minutes to download it from our website. After logging on, the Opera browser will work.
Most patrons have no problems logging onto our wireless network, but if you do need help, please go to the Information Desk.
