Tanks for the Memories
Aaron Elson of
Hackensack

Aaron Elson became interested in the Second World War after attending a reunion of his father’s unit the 712 th Tank Battalion. Since that time he has interviewed hundreds of World War II Veterans. He started his own publishing company called Chi Chi Press (www.chichipress.com) and has published six books entitled: They Were All Young Kids, A Mile in their Shoes, 9 Lives, Tanks for the Memories, Love Company and Follies of a Navy Chaplain. He is also the webmaster of four websites: www.audiomurphy.com, www.chichipress.com, www.kasselmission.com, and www.tankbooks.com. He is a longtime employee of the Bergen County Record and a part time professor at the University of Syracuse . He is currently working with eBay to help publish his audio compact discs. A question and answer period will follow the lecture.

Veterans in the Classroom

Veterans in the Classroom Project Coordinator - Sheila Martin

This project was started in July 2003 when Abington WWII Lecture Series volunteers Sheila Martin, Charlotte Goerlich, Warren Kimmel, and George Stiftinger formed a committee. Since its beginning the project has made several visits to Abington High School , Springfield High School and Upper Dublin High School . The goal of this project is to visit more schools and find more guest speakers. The committee will assist any veteran or person who would like to speak to students about their war experiences. Lester Cruise of served in the 82 nd Airborne Division, 505 th Parachute Infantry Regiment, H Company during the Second World War. He will be sharing his memories of training in the United States and combat in Europe .
